Spain Arrests Eight Islamic Extremists Believed to be Linked to al-Qaeda Affiliate

Police, acting on an order from the National Court in Madrid, Spain arrested eight members of an Islamic extremist group on Tuesday, accusing the men of recruiting, raising money, and providing logistical support to an al-Qaeda affiliate in Algeria.

 

All eight men are Algerian and were arrested in the provinces of Barcelona, Navarra and Castellon following Spain’s tribunal that handles terrorism cases.

 

As a result of the arrests police also recovered more than $10,000 in cash, records of bank transfers to Algeria, bank passbooks as well as other incriminating evidence.
