Robert Williams on Trial for 19 Hour Rape and Torture

Robert Williams went on trial Thursday for the 19 hour rape and torture of a  23-year-old college student in her New York apartment. Williams, 31, is facing 71 counts including attempted murder, rape, arson and assault.

The victim, a journalism student at Columbia University, said the attack began around 10 p.m. on April 13, 2007 and ended at nearly 4 p.m. the next afternoon. She was repeatedly raped, sodomized, forced to perform oral sex, and doused with boiling water and bleach.

Williams forced the woman to swallow handfuls pills, causing her liver to fail. He poured boiling water over her twins and slit her eyelids.

Williams then ordered the woman to gouge out her own eyes. “I was in so much pain I decided to aim for my neck, and if I died it would be so much quicker than how he was going to do it,” she testified.

She missed the knife as she tried to fall forward onto it. Williams was angry and the victim said he beat “my face, my eye sockets, with the blunt end of the knife.”

The woman blacked out and woke to find herself tied to her futon bed. Williams apparently started a fire and his victim used it to burn off the bonds.

The woman was able to identify Williams as her attacker when he was arrested a week after the assault. His DNA was found in her apartment and on her. He was also caught on a security camera attempting to use the woman’s credit card.

If convicted, Williams faces life in prison.
