Police in
Investigators claim at least five people have died as a result of the abnormal, invasive or unnecessary surgeries. They contend doctors at the clinic failed to take into account patients ages or medical condition prior to performing the surgeries, and did so simply to make more money.
Patients at the clinic have reported waking up from surgery to find doctors performed additional, unnecessary and painful procedures on them.
Records from the clinic are also being reviewed by officials who claim the doctors altered patients’ charts in order to bill the Italian national and regional health service for more costly procedures, raking in as much as $3.8 million in extra money.
