Mexican drug cartels fueling more political corruption
The Mexican war on drugs is only getting worse as drug cartels start to seek ways to take over the government.
Mexican president Felipe Calderon warns that the drug cartels are seeking to overthrow the government and enforce their own laws.
Drug cartels have been known to impose fees like taxes in areas that they controlled with the use of force. This use of force has resulted in over 28,000 deaths since the beginning of the war on drugs since 2006.
Cities in Mexico such as Cuidad Juarez live in fear of the drug gangs that murder shamelessly. It has been found that an average of 7 people are killed every single day in Cuidad Juarez, which is considered the most dangerous city in Mexico.
Calderon stands by his decision to crack down on drug cartels despite the rapidly increasing death rate in Mexico. He not only wants to eliminate the drug trafficking, but hopes to rid Mexico of the political corruption brought about by rich drug gangs. He also plans to create better educational programs in cities where drug gangs are most likely to generate.
