Six people attending the graduation ceremonies for Fort Mill High School on Saturday were arrested and charged with cheering too loud when their loved one received their diploma.
Rock Hill, South Carolina police escorted the six individuals out of the ceremony after they determined their behavior to be disorderly conduct, each of the six were arrested after separate “outbursts.”
According to police each of the arrested individuals had yelled the name of the graduate when their name was announced during the ceremony. Fort Mill Principal Dee Christopher responded to the arrests saying, “We think it's important for every graduate's name to be heard and for every person in the arena to be able to see that student cross the stage. ... That's why we have disruptive guests removed.”
Fort Mill High School wasn’t the only school that had an arrest during graduation proceedings. During York Comprehensive High School’s graduation, also located in South Carolina, one person in attendance was arrested for the same charge.
