A U.S Houston-based organization, AMOM CHARITY, has donated a consignment of English and French textbooks to Catholic schools in Kumbo Diocese in Cameroon, Africa.
Addressing pupils, parents, guardians and teachers who came out in their numbers to receive the books, the Catholic Education Secretary’s representative, Marius Berinyuy said the consignment of books will help to boost teachers’ and pupils’ performance in Catholic schools. Parents who cannot buy textbooks for their children due to high prices can now give a nominal fee of FCFA 500 for the same book from the school library which otherwise costs over FCFA 4,500, it was explained.
Apart from the textbooks estimated at FCFA 3.4 million donated that day which will reach out to more than 18,000 kids, Kumbo Catholic Education Agency was grateful to AMOM Charity for textbooks provided to St. John the Baptist’s Primary and Nursery School Ngondzen during the 2008/2009 Academic Year and 110 copies of Integrated Nursery Rhymes to the 55 nursery schools and 3,053 pupils in Kumbo Diocese in the 2009/2010 school year. The fruits are already being reaped.
As part of the Amom Charity’s Book Project sustainability program, more textbooks in other subjects shall be provided from the money that accrues from sales, Mr. Berinyuy said. A happy prelude, on the book donation eve, spiced the event as two project pilot schools, St. Charles Lwanga’s School Roh-Bui and St. Jude’s School Ndzengwev scored 100 percent in the Government Common Entrance Examination. All candidates passed in List A. Not only general performance, but also the standard of spoken and written English in the project schools is expected to improve as readers were among the textbooks donated.
Mr. Berinyuy thanked the AMOM Charity Founder and Managing Director, Afowiri Kizito Fondzenyuy “Kitz”, Board of Directors and volunteers for assisting needy children in rural poor areas in Cameroon. He urged them to continue struggling, adding if the masses collaborate, more textbooks and adequate education would be a reality for thousands of children.
The Education Secretary’s representative challenged the executives of Parent Teachers Associations of all Catholic schools in Kumbo Diocese to look after and make good use of the books AMOM CHARITY and other donor Organizations have donated to excel in their academic performance.
AMOM Charity’s representative from Houston, Yenka Banboye, explained the books were donated to encourage the younger generation in Kumbo to carry on its struggle to be educated. He went further on to reiterate that the decision to donate books was taken to permit less privileged pupils have textbooks. While encouraging pupils to continue struggling to be educated, he described education as one of life’s ultimate requirements. He congratulated schools in Kumbo Diocese on their exceptional performance in public examination and expressed joy over the promise AMOM Charity-donated books will be used judiciously.
The organization’s Cameroon representatives, Mr. and Mrs Fondzenyuy, who were part of AMOM Charity delegation to Kumbo, also asked that the books be put to good use. Madam Fondzenyuy added the organization is doing all it can to bring joy to disadvantaged pupils by enabling them have books irrespective of their financial backgrounds. They promised, with God’s help, to do more for schools in future, especially in Information and Technology, by providing computers to schools that have electricity.
Pupils and Parents raised their voices in song and dance, praising AMOM Charity for the books donated and for working to improve the quality of education in Kumbo Diocese
