The drugs, estimated to be worth more than $400 million, were buried in a trench some 6 feet deep and covered by foliage to camouflage it.
Counternarcotics officers indicated the drugs were destroyed on site.
A spokesman for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency indicated no other raid in recent memory had netted that many tons of drugs.
