Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai and Secretary General Tendai Biti have both been detained by Zimbabwe police at separate locations.
Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change, was stopped at a roadblock along the way to a rally near Kwekwe. The opposition leader is scheduled to face current president Robert Mugabe in the country’s presidential run-off on June 27. This is the third time he has been detained this month.
Biti was arrested at Harare international airport after arriving from a two month stay in South Africa. Biti knew he was facing arrest when he arrived back in the country but has remained adamant that he would continue the fight for the Movement for Democratic Change.
The nature of the charges leveled against Tsvangirai and Biti have not been released.
