Psoriasis Treatment Options Reviewed by Leading Boston Dermatologist Tania Phillips, M.D.

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder that causes red, scaly patches on the limbs, trunk, scalp, and other parts of the body. Patients can now find information about psoriasis treatment from the person they trust most - their own dermatologist.

Boston Dermatologist Tania J. Phillips, M.D. has published information about psoriasis treatment to her own website.  There are many effective treatments that work for psoriasis ranging from mild to severe.

Tania Phillips, M.D., dermatologist reviews treatment options, including phototherapy or biologics, as well as over the counter or prescription medications such as coal tar or micanol.

Biologics are among the newer treatments for psoriasis and have become an important treatment option for a person with moderate to severe psoriasis that has not responded to other therapies. Biologics work by targeting the underlying cause of psoriasis - excessive skin cell growth due to an overactive immune system. Although they can often provide long periods of clear skin, they are not a cure for psoriasis and ongoing treatment remains necessary.

Tania Phillips, MD completed her medical training at Guys Hospital Medical School, University of London, in London England. During this time she also did an intercalated B.Sc., Honours Program in physiology and immunology.
