Mexico Supreme Court Upholds Same Sex Marriage in Mexico City

A law in Mexico City that legalizes same sex marriage was upheld by Mexico’s Supreme Court in a hearing Thursday. The law went into effect in March.

Thursday’s decision does not affect other jurisdictions. The Supreme Court will make that decision next week, according to the Notimex news agency.

Mexico’s ruling came a day after a United States federal judge lifted a ban on same sex marriage in California. U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker found Proposition 8 unconstitutional.
