The Minnesota man convicted in a 2006 Toyota crash that
killed three people was freed by a judge on Thursday. Citing new evidence, the
judge ordered a new trial for Koua Fong Lee, but Ramsay County prosecutor Susan
Gaertner says she will drop all charges.
"Mr. Lee will be a free man," Gaertner said in
a statement.
Lee, 32, was sentenced to 8 years in prison for the June
2006 crash. He was driving a 1996 Toyota Camry when it plowed into two
vehicles. He has always claimed the car accelerated uncontrollably.
Toyota issued a recall last year for millions of vehicles
because of possible unintended acceleration. Lee’s car is not a part of the
recall.
