Two engravings by Pablo Picasso were stolen Thursday when heavily armed thieves robbed an art museum in Sao Paulo. The thieves also took two oil paintings by well-known Brazilian artists Emiliano di Cavalcanti and Lasar Segal.
For the second time in less than a year, robbers have taken major artwork from the Sao Paulo Museum of Art. In December, Picasso’s “Portrait of Suzanne Bloch” and “O Lavrador de Café” by influential Brazilian artist Candido Portinari were stolen when three men forced open one of the museum’s steel doors.
The exact pieces stolen in Thursday’s robbery were not immediately identified. The framed paintings stolen in December were discovered Jan. 8 wrapped in plastic and leaning against a wall in a home outside
