Jake Peavy returned on the mound Thursday for the Padres against the Dodgers a team that he has now won 10 straight decisions against. The Padres have started to play better baseball overall and with ace Peavy coming back to lead their rotation they could be on their way to making a run in the wild open NL West.
The D'backs have owned the division so far this season and they haven't had much of a challenge. The Padres have been known over the last couple of seasons as a good pitching team and in this division pitching is going to make the difference in the end.
Peavy returned today to give six innings of three-hit shutout ball to help the Padres to a 9-0 shutout win of the Dodgers at in San Diego. Brian Giles hit a three-run homer in the first inning over Dodger starter Hiroki Kuroda and the team didn't look back.
The Padres are now 30-38 on the season and is playing their best stretch of baseball entering Interleague Play. If they can get some consistent production from their offense and keep players healthy, there is no reason why they shouldn't again be in the running for the division crown.
