Rebel Fighters in Chad Attack Border Town Near Sudan

The town of Goz Beida in Chad has reportedly fallen to anti-government rebels after the heavily armed forces launched an attack earlier this week.

Goz Beida sits near the border of Sudan and is home to thousands of Darfur refugees who have fled the violence from their home country.

Having taken Goz Beida the rebels have turned their sites on the capital city of N’Djamena with plans of taking the city by Sunday.

Government officials have accused Sudan of arming the rebels and have begun organizing forces to defend N’Djamena.

The two countries have been at odds with each other for some time and it was just last month that Chad closed its borders with Sudan and cut all economic ties.
