Attempted Afghan Prison Break Leaves 2 Marines Dead

An attempted prison break in southern Afghanistan left two United States Marines and one prisoner dead. In a press release Monday, the International Security Assistance Force said the prisoner attempted to escape a coalition jail Saturday during prayer time. He obtained a rifle and exchanged gunfire with Afghan and coalition forces.

Two Marines were killed after trying to subdue the prisoner. The prisoner was shot and killed.

Details on the prison and attacker were not released.
