Afghani President Hamid Karzai Threatens to Send Troops into Pakistan

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has warned Pakistan that if their border is not better policed he will send troops into the country to confront the militants who have launched attacks within Afghanistan.

The border along Afghanistan and Pakistan is believed to be heavily populated with militants closely tied to the Taliban as well as al-Qaeda. On Friday a massive prison attack in the former Taliban stronghold of Kandahar resulted in more than 1,100 prisoners freed including more than 400 Taliban detainees.

Karzai has blamed Pakistan for not doing enough to confront the militants who move across the border to launch attacks and then return over the border into Pakistan. The Afghani president warned “Afghanistan has the right of self-defense. When they cross the territory from Pakistan to come and kill Afghans and to kill coalition troops it exactly gives us the right to go back and do the same.”

Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has warned against that move saying “Neither do we interfere in anyone else's matters, nor will we allow anyone to interfere in our territorial limits and our affairs.”

The prime minister went on to say, “We want a stable Afghanistan. It is in our interest. How can we go to destabilize our brotherly country?”
