Condoleezza Rice Warns Jewish Settlement Building Negatively Impact Middle East Peace Process

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is holding little hope for a long term peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians and has said the settlement building along the West Bank will hamper any opportunity that may lead to peace.

Israel has announced plans to continue building in Ramat Shlomo, an area Israel considers part of Jerusalem. The announcement has angered Palestinians who believe the move will destroy any hope for peace.

Rice also called for an end to militant offensives on Israel, noting the rocket attacks from Gaza into Israel are a clear sign that both countries have work to do.

Israel took control of eastern Jerusalem in the 1967 war and believes the entire city is their capital while Palestinians have been fighting for an independent state in the wet Bank with eastern Jerusalem as its capital.
