Luke Russert, the son of the late NBC News anchor Tim Russert, appeared on NBC's Today Show on Monday morning.
Russert, a recent graduate from Boston College, said he and his mother, Maureen Orth, are ""hanging' in there". "[We] take it day by day," continued Russert. "We're holding up as best as can be."
Russert expressed his gratitude to the outpour of support by fans, friends and family during this troubling time. Luke said that planning for his father's funeral is helping to keep their minds off their sadness, also citing his family's devout Catholicism as a source of strength during their mourning.
"She grieves like a wife, and I grieve like a son, so we're mourning differently," Luke said.
Tim Russert, the longtime host of NBC's Meet the Press, passed away Friday after collapsing at the NBC News Bureau in Washington. The cause of death was coronary embolism, which caused a heart attack.
According to the autopsy, Russert's physician Dr. Michael Newman said that Russert "was known to have asymptomatic coronary artery disease [atherosclerosis], which resulted in hardening of his coronary arteries."
