A Jet Blue flight attendant identified as Steven Slater
was arrested Monday after triggering an emergency chute at a JFK Airport in NYC
and using it to exit the plane.
The trouble started when Slater and an unidentified
passenger had a heated exchange. The passenger reportedly stood to remove
baggage before he was given permission to do so. Slater asked him to be seated,
but the man refused. Slater then got on the plane intercom and went on an
expletive laden rant aimed at the passenger.
When the plane stopped at the gate, Slater grabbed a beer,
triggered the emergency chute and fled. Slater was arrested at his Queens home and
charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and criminal trespass. He
could face up to 7 years in jail.
