Couple Accused of Killing 13-Year-Old Son by Tying Him to Tree Appear in NC Court

A Macclesfield, North Carolina couple accused of killing their 13-year-old son by tying him to a tree and leaving him for two nights appeared in court on Monday where they faced charges of murder and felony child abuse.

No plea was entered for Brice Brian McMillan, 41, or his wife Sandra Elizabeth McMillan, 36. According to a police report Brice had said their son was being disciplined for being disobedient. He was tied to a tree Tuesday evening and released Wednesday but was tied back to the tree later that evening.

When the teen’s stepmother went to check on him Thursday afternoon he was found unresponsive.

The cause of death has not been released but police said the boy suffered severe  bruising to the wrist, cuts across his body and he was missing flesh from his buttocks having been tied to a tree for nearly 18 hours.

Authorities have placed two children, ages 7 and 9, who had been under the couple’s care under the custody of the Department of Social Services.
