Suspect Arrested in Shooting Death of California Sherriff’s Deputy

Yolo County authorities tracked down and arrested 35-year-old Marco Topete and have charged the man in the shooting death of sherrif’s deputy Jose Diaz, 37, on Sunday night.

A massive manhunt had been launched for Topete early Monday morning and deputies eventually found him trying to hide in a wooded area near a golf course.

Diaz,a ten-year vet, was shot in the shoulder on Sunday and died overnight while in the hospital.

Officers had responded to a call Sunday night that an officer had been shot. When they arrived they found an abandoned baby in a car. The baby has been reported as safe.
