Ed Gordon, the Award-winning journalist, has launched Daddy's Promise, a Father's Day initiative for African-American fathers, according to reports Tuesday.
Daddy's Promise: A Lifetime of Love, which is co-sponsored by Bounty Towels, is a nationwide initiative to create a national dialogue within and between African American families about the responsibility and rewards of the father-daughter bond.
Gordon, who has a daughter named Taylor, launched Daddy's Promise on Father's Day to celebrate the bond between African-American fathers and their daughters.
"You don't see many positive images when it relates to men and their young girls and we have to be honest about what’s going on in our community and there are a lot of men that have not involved themselves, not only with their daughters, but with their children in general," Gordon said in an interview with EURweb.com "But I also knew that there were a whole lot of fathers out there doing the right thing that were not being saluted and I wanted to do that."
The site, which is located at http://www.daddyspromise.com, will include a Gordon's blog about his thoughts on the initiative and its progress, as well as interviews with celebrities such as Ludacris, Gabrielle Union, Steve Harvey and Terence Howard.
DaddysPromise.com will also feature a picture gallery of African-American fathers with their daughters. Gordon told EURWeb that Matthew Knowles (the father of Beyonce and Solange Knowles), Will Downing, and Gerald Albright have already submitted photos.
Gordon, the son of 1932 Olympic gold medalist Ed Gordon Jr., has been a news anchor for the last 20 years. He has hosted shows on National Public Radio, NBC News, MSNBC and BET.
