Search for Two Women Missing in Alaska’s Denali National Park and Preserve Continues

A massive search for two women who went missing while hiking in Alaska’s Denali National Park and Preserve has continued with ground and air crews already covering close to 100 square miles.

Abby Flantz, 25 and Erica Nelson, 23, were last seen on Thursday and reported missing on Saturday after they failed to show up for work at a hotel near the park.

Flantz and Nelson had planned on a short backpacking trip when they headed to the park on Thursday.

Search crews have concentrated on an area around the Savage River check station, the last place the two women were seen. While the two are experienced trail hikers they are not believed to be as experienced with the rugged conditions associated with the Alaska backcountry.
