The Mets continue to show why everything has went wrong for them this season with the firing Willie Randolph following their 9-6 win over the Angels Monday night. Many have anticipated this move for about the last couple of weeks but no one thought it would come this soon.
Willie Randolph lead the Mets to best record in baseball in the "06" season at 97-65 and maintained them as a winning club in the "07" season but with the club collapsing in the month of September the fans and the management have been on Randolph back.
The Mets believe that they still have a shot in the division even though the Phillies have played some of the best baseball in the league. They will use Jerry Manuel as the interim manager for now and probably will stay there for the rest of the season. Jerry Manuel has experience coaching and has had some success especially with his days with the White Sox.
The Mets also let go pitching coach Rick Peterson and first-base coach Tom Nieto and believe that the moves will light a fire under the Mets ball club. Only time will tell but the Mets could be in for a long Summer after all and could be starting from square one after establishing themselves as a winner over the last couple of years.
