A suicide bomber on a motorcycle killed 12 people and wounded 23 others Monday, officials in
The blast occurred near a police building in a northern Sri Lankan town. The suicide bomber was apparently targeting both police officers and civilians.
It has not been determined how many of the dead are police and how many are civilians. Fighting in the area has intensified between the military and Tamil Tiger rebels.
Air force officials reported Sunday that a rebel base in the area had been destroyed.
