Young people'se live affected daily by drug abuse

Report details how young persons lives are affected everyday by substance abuse

A recent report entitled “A Day in the Life of American Adolescents: Substance Use Facts Update,” gives a glimpse into the harsh reality of how substance abuse is affecting the daily lives of young people nationwide.

This report brings to light the alarming rate at which young people are not only experimenting with drugs and alcohol, but also the rate at which they are regularly using these substances. Among the most alarming statistics from 2008, is that on any given day, 563,000 adolescents used marijuana, 37,000 used inhalants, 24,000 used hallucinogens, 16,000 used cocaine and 2,800 used heroine.

“This report further demonstrates the devastating problem of drug abuse among America’s youth,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “We need to make sure that we are giving America’s youth the proper support, both educationally and emotionally. Without these two support systems in place for young people, America’s future is bleak. Parents as well as educators and policy-makers need to make sure that they are on high alert, watching for the signs of substance abuse. Education is key for prevention, and early intervention is essential for recovery for those who are already using drugs and alcohol. Effective holistic drug rehab programs that understand the specific needs of youth are also crucial for a successful recovery. Being vigilant on all fronts will produce the best outcomes for young people and for America.”

The report’s data also show that, on an average day in 2008, 76,000 youth under the age of 18 were in outpatient treatment. In addition, more than 9,000 were in non-hospital residential treatment and over 700 were in hospital inpatient treatment. This report highlights the fact that the need for effective drug addiction treatment is steadily growing

Mountainside’s original, unique approach to drug rehab began 12 years ago. Since then, drug treatment officials nationally have recognized the effectiveness of Mountainside’s treatment modalities and how they are giving individuals an optimum chance for sustained recovery.

The compassionate, caring treatment team at Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center is comprised of licensed and certified counselors and social workers as well as an on-staff Nurse Practitioner and a Registered Nurse, both of whom have specializations and extensive experience in drug addiction and alcohol treatment. For clients who may have psychiatric issues and/or a dual diagnosis, Mountainside provides the services of a Psychiatrist who also has specialization in addictions.

The program, along with the cohesive addiction treatment team, has earned national recognition and resulted in Mountainside being invited to Washington by the White House to meet with the White House Drug Czar, John P. Waters, for an in-depth meeting on what makes its program so successful. These accolades did not go unnoticed within the addiction treatment field and has resulted in the adoption by many throughout the country of a more holistic approach to drug addiction treatment.
