Facebook Inc. senior executive Matt Cohler will join venture capitalist firm Benchmark Capital this fall, according to reports on Thursday.
Cohler, 31, joined Facebook in 2005 and is currently its vice president of product management.
Cohler, one of the social networking site's earliest employees, will become a general partner at Benchmark Capital. For the VC firm, Cohler will focus on investing in Internet-related start-ups and work closely with companies currently in the venture capital firm's portfolio.
At Facebook, Cohler helped lead the company strategy and develop its core social networking product, working closely with its engineering and marketing staffs. Prior to that, Cohler worked at LinkedIn, the online network for professionals he helped found, which recently raised $53 million from Bain Capital, valuing the company at $1 billion.
Upon joining Benchmark, Cohler will remain as special adviser to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's founder and chief executive, and on the social networking site's senior management team.
