Debra Ryan, Girlfriend of Missing Hedge Fund Manager, Arrested for Role in Disappearance

Debra Ryan, the girlfriend of missing hedge fund manager Sam Israel III, has been arrested by federal marshals and is now facing charges related to aiding and abetting a convicted felon.

Israel disappeared on June 9, the day he was to begin a 20-year sentence for defrauding investors out of $450 million. Last week police discovered Israel’s vehicle on Bear Mountain Bridge in upstate New York with the phrase “suicide is painless” written on the hood.

Investigators were not convinced the 48-year-old hedge fund manager had taken his life and began pressing Ryan about his whereabouts. She has since admitted she helped Israel pack an RV and a scooter just days before he disappeared.

According to a court complaint Israel drove that RV to a highway rest stop and Ryan followed behind in her own car. After the RV was parked Israel returned home with Ryan.

If convicted Ryan is facing 10 years in prison for her role in Israel’s disappearance.
