With a sweep of the Astros, the O's are hanging in there in the tight AL East race and are now 3 games over .500 with a 37-34 overall record. The good start for the O's have surprised many people so far this season and they continue to show that they might be in the race for the long haul and not sellers at the trade deadline like every predicted.
Interleague Play may be exactly what the Orioles need and it seems what the rest of the AL likes also. They are now 7-2 so far this season in Interleague play but, will have a true task at hand when they face the Milwaukee Brewers in a weekend series at Miller Park. The Brew Crew are fresh off a sweep of the Blue Jays and are playing some of the best baseball they have played all season long.
The O's have gotten it done with a solid bullpen that has backed their young starters. Unlike previous years, the bullpen was a big weak link and let a lot of victories slip away in the late innings. The management made it a priority to strengthen the bullpen a year ago by signing veterans like Bradford and Walker and bringing in Sherrill in a trade with the Mariners that involved Erik Bedard who now has 24 saves.
The Orioles may have chosen the right season to get back to their winning ways but it maybe just the wrong time. The rest of the division is playing as good as them with four teams over .500 or better and the Yankees and Red Sox always there at the top somewhere in September. It will just have to be a wait and see approach to really find out if these O's are for real or if they are just giving their fans a little excitement in the long season.
