When these two teams meet, the city of Chicago becomes completely split and you have to pick a side or you out. You are either for one of them or you are the enemy. The fans of both teams are very verbal and put everything they can into the game to try to give one team an edge.
The rivalry got a little more intense when in 2006 catchers A.J. Pierzynski and Michael Barret got into a brawl at the home plate. The White Sox have usually had the edge in this interleague series but the Cubs have been to fight back with them winning 5 of the 6 games played last season
The White Sox in Chicago have always been known as the second team in Chicago and that will never be able to capture Chicago as its town. Cub fans are many and though they have struggle for so long, have appeal to more Chicago residents. The Cubbies also have many fans throughout the national because of their many broadcasts of games on the WGN Network.
Winning the 2005 World Series did have the White Sox gain a little more of Chicago on their side but they still haven't been able to break through in Chicago from beneath the Cubs. Whenever these two teams play you should sit back in your seats and prepare to see a lot of whacky things like Sox hurler Mark Buehrle giving up like 8 runs in the first inning and still winning the game.
Just imagine if both Chicago teams made it to the World Series and the pride of the teams would be at an ultimate high. Maybe then if the Sox did win, if they can take over Chicago or at least bring the Cubs down some.
