League Pride In the Air?

The American League and National League have battle each other for years and there have been some really good battles over the years. However many question rather there is a sense of league pride when the two play.

The All-Star game may be the ultimate game to determine which league is better for the given season but interleague play is extended match up of teams of a different league.

When interleague play rolls around, it’s a good time to see the great pitching matchups and the match up of players that have been compared as the best of the game. A match up of Chris Carpenter and Roy Halladay in an interleague play is dream pitching matchup for fans of good pitching.

Some teams come into interleague play struggling and by time interleague play they have played solid baseball for that period of time. That could raise the question rather their division teams are much tougher than what the other league is overall or it could just be a fluke.

Interleague play might not have been made to give a spark to league pride but players do take pride in proving to everyone that they are not just one of the best in their leagues but in the entire game of baseball. Someone like Roger Clemens proved a point when he left the AL after spending his whole career there and signed with the Astros.

He was getting towards the end of his career and many were thinking it was time for him to retire. The NL totally revived his career and helped him collect two more CY Young awards to his collection. Then he we came back to AL last season to sign with Yankees, he struggled mightily compare to what he did in the NL and he battled injuries constantly.
