In a move that was increasing becoming expected with the recently struggles and inconsistent play of the Jays this season, they have decided to fire manager Jay Gibbons and replace him with Cito Gaston who is a former Blue Jay manager.
The Blue Jay management also relieved coaches Marty Pevey, Ernie Whitt and Gary Denbo and replaced them with First Base Coach Dwayne Murphy, Third Base Coach Nick Leyva and Hitting Coach Gene Tenace. The Blue Jays have been one of the more inconsistent teams so far this year by getting to the .500 mark and continually to fall down below.
Manager Gibbons was on the hot seat for the most part after many criticize the way he was running the club house and if his players respected the way he would manage games. He began managing the Blue Jays in 2004 and has compiled a career 305-305 record in time.
The Blue Jays believe that they still have a shot to win this year and wanted to make a move quickly to give the team an extra boost in hope of playing consistent baseball. Many predicted that the Jays would be in the position their division rivals Rays are in at this point of the season but it hasn't worked out.
They had to blame somebody and maybe Gibbons firing will lite a fire under the club to play solid baseball the rest of the way. Maybe the whole team needs to take lessons from staff ace Roy Halladay to believe that you need to give your very best on every play and every game like you are playing your last.
