The remains of a 24-year-old woman who has been missing
for nearly a year were found in a remote area of Malibu Canyon in California.
Park rangers looking for marijuana groves on Monday stumbled upon the skeletal
remains of Mitrice Richardson, who disappeared in September 2009 after being
released from a sheriff’s station in Malibu.
Rhonda Hampton, a friend of the Richardson family, tells
CNN that an autopsy confirmed the remains were Mitrice’s. "We're in shock.
I was always holding out hope. This is devastating, regardless of whether we
believed she was in that canyon. You don't want that to be true, so there's a
level of denial because that's what keeps you going,” Hampton told CNN
Thursday.
Richardson disappeared from a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s
station in the early morning hours of September 17. She had been arrested at a restaurant
for not paying.
