Results of an investigation into the hundreds of schools that collapsed during
Parents gathered Friday in anticipation of the report, but were turned away without any answers. Claims have been made that substandard construction leading to the schools’ collapse resulted in the unnecessary deaths of hundreds of school children.
Engineers inspecting many of the sites have reported a lack of steel reinforcing beams in the concrete structures. While evidence of poor construction was readily evident, finding out who was responsible could take longer.
Reports surfaced last week that pointed to reporting inaccuracies within the Chinese government. Daily updates on the numbers of people killed or missing following the 7.9-magnitude earthquake have ceased following allegations they were ‘best guess’ estimates, not exact counts.
