DIGITAL PRODUCTION BUZZ FEATURES MAJOR NEWS REGARDING THE FUTURE OF BLU-RAY DVDS

Creative Planet’s Digital Production BuZZ, the world's only interactive talk radio for digital production, post-production and distribution, features a significant announcement by the DVD Association that they are working to provide Blu-ray compatible files using red laser discs.

Bruce Nazarian, president of the DVD Association and industry giant, told the BuZZ that the DVDA is very close to finding a way to produce and replicate Blu-Ray DVD-compatible media using red laser DVD burners.  Nazarian explained that the advantage to this system is it will allow producers to by-pass Blu-ray AACS licensing requirements. Simple projects can be created in current desktop applications, authored in Blu-ray format and burned to current DVD-5 or DVD-9 red laser discs for replication purposes using the H.264 codec.

“This works well for everybody because it sells Blu-ray players and it keeps DVD replicators in business,” said Nazarian. “It gives everybody in the second tier of production a far more affordable and easy way to get [their titles into] Blu-ray.”

Larry Jordan, host and executive producer of Digital Production BuZZ noted “If the association can make this work, Bruce will have taken us a major step forward in the emerging hi-definition deliverable world.”
