Navy Christens Newest Attack Submarine Eight Months ahead of Schedule

The Navy christened their newest attack submarine, the New Hampshire, on Saturday in Groton, Connecticut.

Delivered eight months ahead of schedule and more than $50 million under budget the New Hampshire will begin its sea trials in the upcoming months and be delivered to the Navy in October.

Cheryl McGuinness, widow of American Airlines Flight 11 co-pilot Thomas McGuinness, did the honors of christening the 7,800 ton, 337-foot nuclear powered submarine while the thousands in attendance watched on. McGuinness was killed on Sept. 11, 2001 after terrorists hijacked his flight and slammed the plane into the World Trade Center’s north tower.
