French President Nicolas Sarkozy Urges Creation of Palestinian State

French President Nicolas Sarkozy touched down at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv, Israel on Sunday where he was met by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and President Shimon Peres ahead of scheduled talks in Jerusalem.

Sarkozy has applauded the recent peace deal between Israel and Hamas and has encouraged the creation of a Palestinian state that would continue to foster peace between the two sides.

Arriving with his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the French president held talks with Peres in Jerusalem before heading to diner with Olmert.

Sarkozy is scheduled to address Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, on Monday before heading to Bethlehem on Tuesday to hold talks with Mahmoud Abbas, Presidnet of the Palestinian Authority.
