Former Skydiving Champ Dies in Jump when Parachute Fails to Open

Richard Alvin Schindler, a 39-year-old off-duty Riverside County sheriff’s deputy, died on Saturday after his parachute failed to deploy during a skydiving jump at Lake Elsinore in Riverside County, CA.

Schindler had a back-up shoot but there was no evidence that it had been deployed.

In 2005 Schindler had been part of the Elsinore Equinox team that won first place at the U.S. National Skydiving Championships.
