Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta was killed Saturday in an accident at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. The 46-year-old was in the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals when his Funny Car crashed and burst into flames.
Kalitta was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center where he died. His car was going 300 mph when it crashed.
“We are deeply saddened and want to pass along our sincere condolences to the entire Kalitta family,” the NHRA said in a statement.
