Sectarian Violence in Northern Lebanon Leaves at least Four Dead

Deadly clashes between anti-Syrian Sunnis and pro-Syrian Alawites near Tripoli on Monday has claimed at least four lives and pushed the two-day total to at least eight killed.

Sectarian violence between the two factions broke out on Sunday despite a ceasefire agreed upon earlier that day.

Lebanon is supposed to be in the process of forming a government that unites the western-backed anti-Syrian supporters and the pro-Syrian parties led by Hezbollah.

Lebanon’s anti-Syrian Prime Minister Fouad Siniora was attending a donors’ conference in Vienna when the violence broke out.
