Shooting on Southern California Freeway Leaves Suspect Dead

A man suspected of shooting an Anaheim police officer in the leg on Sunday was fatally shot by officers on Monday morning after he initiated gunfire on a Southern California freeway.

According to police reports the man had been traveling eastbound on Riverside Freeway when police attempted to pull him over. The man tried to speed away but quickly encountered traffic at which point he slammed into several cars before exiting his vehicle.

The man then turned his gun on the pursuing officers and fired off several shots. Police returned fire and mortally wounded the man.

A woman motorist was hit by gunfire in the exchange and was taken to a local hospital and she is expected to survive.

Police believe the dead man was the same individual who shot an Anaheim officer on Sunday. The officer confronted the man on Sunday after he was reported to have exposed himself in front of some children at a hotel.
