Pennsylvania police say a 26-year-old woman went to a bar instead of returning to jail after the funeral for her 6-year-old son. Erin Howard was allowed to leave Erie County Prison for 24 hours to attend funeral services in Ohio for her son Samuel Carpenter.
The boy was killed in a drunken driving crash with his mother. Howard was drunk when she crashed her car into a creek bank, killing Samuel. She was arrested in Ohio Sunday after Samuel’s father tipped authorities off to where she was.
After leaving her son’s funeral, Howard went to a bar in Hamilton, Ohio near the church where the funeral was held. She had orders to return to the prison by 3 p.m. Saturday.
Howard has been charged with escape, involuntary manslaughter, drunken driving and child endangerment.
