The ex-boyfriend of ‘Get Smart’ star Anne Hathaway has been arrested on fraud charges. Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri was arrested for fraud, money laundering, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and lying to investors. He is also accused of claiming to be the CFO of the Vatican.
Follieri allegedly used the funds he stole from investors for a trip to the Dominican Republic on New Years in 2006 with Hathaway, who was his girlfriend at the time, and another couple. He also used to money to pay medical bills for he and his father as well as rent for his apartment.
Follieri is no stranger to legal issues. He was recently arrested for writing a bad check for $215,000.
He is due in a Manhattan federal court for his latest charges on Tuesday. Follieri could face life in prison.
