Shooting at Atlantis Plastics Leaves 6 Dead

Six people were shot and killed at a Henderson, KY plastics plant. The shooting early Wednesday was started when an Atlantis Plastics employee got into an argument with a supervisor.

According to Atlantis CEO Bud Philbrook, the employee was escorted from the building. As he was leaving, he pulled out a gun and shot the supervisor before running back into a break room and shooting three employees. He then returned to the floor where he shot another employee and turned the gun on himself.

 

“It’s just total shock. It’s something you read about in the paper what happened at one of out facilities,” Philbrook said.

 

About 34 employees were inside the plant when the shooting occurred around midnight. The plastics plant in an Atlanta-based company that employs a total of 1,300 people. The Henderson plant employs about 150 people.

 

Henderson County Judge-Executive Sandy Watkins says the shooting has shaken the entire town of about 28,000 people as many residents are either related to or know a plant worker. “Our whole community is in shock,” she said.

 

The names of the shooter and victims have not been released. At least one person was injured and is being treated at St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana.
