Monet’s ‘Water Lily Pond’ Sells for Record $80 Million
A painting by French impressionist Claude Monet sold for more than $80 million Tuesday at a Christie’s auction in
“Le basin aux nympheas” or “Water Lily Pond” had been in a private collection since it was purchased at a
Tuesday’s purchase price broke an auction record for a Monet work, which was set in May when “Le Pont de chemin de fer a
“Water Lily Pond” was part of a four-work collection of paintings signed and dated by Monet in 1919.
