Summer Camps in Iowa are Open for Business

Despite the recent devastation caused by floods throughout the state of Iowa, many summer camps in the Des Moines area have been unaffected and are registering kids and teens as planned

For many kids and teen summer camps in Iowa, it's business as usual, even if people don't realize that many parts of the state have not been adversely affected by the recent flooding. One such case is SuperCamp's academic summer camps, which are held at Drake University in Des Moines.

The Des Moines area has come through the flooding relatively unscathed and, because of that, SuperCamp's planned summer programs at Drake are unchanged. SuperCamp is holding two camps at Drake: a middle school camp for kids entering grades 6-8 in the fall will be held July 13-22 and a teen summer camp for incoming 9th to 12th graders will take place July 25 through August 2. Students attending these camps reside on campus.

Parents looking for summer enrichment programs for their kids in the midwest this summer still have time to enroll their sons and daughters in SuperCamp's Drake programs. They can do so online at the website, which provides information on all of SuperCamp's summer camps. They also can call 800-285-3276 to speak directly with an enrollment specialist.

This is the first year that SuperCamp has come to Des Moines with its camps. "Drake University is a beautiful college and Des Moines is an outstanding location for parents throughout the midwest to enroll their sons and daughters in a summer enrichment program," said SuperCamp president, Bobbi DePorter.

Space remains in a few of SuperCamp's other seven U.S. college locations, including two Southern California summer camps at Claremont Colleges and Cal State San Marcos. Families in the northwest can enroll their kids in SuperCamp programs held at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Campers who fly to any SuperCamp location unaccompanied by an adult are met by SuperCamp staff at the airport and transported to the college and led through the registration process, after which they are assigned their dorm room and head there to unpack before the fun and learning begins.

SuperCamp is in its twenty-seventh year and has enrolled over 50,000 students since its inception in 1982. This year, the camp expects to enroll close to 3,000 in the U.S. and worldwide.
