Thieves stole mobile phones and laptop computers from the back of tractor-trailer rig as it rode down a German autobahn at 60 miles per hour.
Six Romanians, dubbed ‘autobahn pirates,’ have been arrested after police witnessed the gang in action.
According to authorities, the group staged the nighttime robbery when they pulled their car, with lights off, behind the transport truck. While the two vehicles were in motion, one man climbed onto the hood of the car and used a bolt cutter to remove a lock from the trailer door.
Once inside the truck, the man was able to hand boxes to a second man who was positioned on the car’s hood. Thieves in a second car blocked traffic from pulling alongside the truck during the robbery.
Police say they were tipped off when a driver reported witnessing a similar theft as it occurred two weeks ago.
