On this week’s episode of maniaTV’s behind the scenes music show ‘All Access’, host Samantha Maloney spends time with Anthony Gonzales of the French electronic “shoe-gazing” band M83, and British solo artist Ed Harcourt. The episode begins in Phoenix, where Samantha sits down with M83’s Anthony Gonzales to discuss everything from his new album ‘Saturdays=Youth’, to movies and the French language. M83 has produced the remix tracks of "Pioneers" on British group Bloc Party's 2005 album ‘Silent Alarm Remixed’, Goldfrapp's "Black Cherry", Depeche Mode's "Suffer Well" and Bumblebeez 81's "Vila Attack". Their track, “Don't Save us From the Flames", was featured in a Pontiac commercial, and their cover of "In Church” was featured in the 2006 film Stranger than Fiction.
Following her day with Anthony, Samantha heads back to Los Angeles to visit the home of Ed Harcourt, a former chef turned musician who has released four critically acclaimed albums, performed with the French Jazz quartet Erik Truffaz, and has opened for bands such as Snow Patrol and R.E.M. Ed and his wife Gita treat Samantha to great conversation, a private performance of “You Only Call Me When Your Drunk”, and an exquisitely prepared gourmet meal.

About M83
M83 is electronic artist Anthony Gonzalez. Gonzalez founded the group with Nicolas Fromageau in Antibes, France, in 2001. M83’s musical style owes something to “shoegaze”, with emphasis on tone, extensive use of effects and, most notably, softly-spoken lyrics almost submerged in instrumentation. Guitar or synthesizer based, many of M83’s parts conform to the fetishism of tone that dominates contemporary electro. ‘Saturdays = Youth’, M83's fifth studio album was released on April 15, 2008 on Mute Records.
About Ed Harcourt
Ed Harcourt, born on August 14, 1977, is a British singer-songwriter from Lewes, East Sussex who has so far released four critically acclaimed albums and has a relatively small but very enthusiastic fan-base. His first instrument is the piano, but he also uses several less common keyboard instruments as well as the guitar. Live he is accompanied by a band typically comprising a drummer, guitarist, violinist and trumpeter. His work is sometimes reminiscent of Tom Waits but still entirely his own, varied and passionate style.
Besides being a headliner himself, he has also played support for a lot of artists over the years, like REM, Wilco and Neil Finn. Before he went solo, he played the bass and keyboards in a band called Snug.
