"New York City Waterfalls" Debut Thursday Along Brooklyn Bridge

The famed NYC waterfalls will debut Thursday in New York City along the city's East River.

"The New York City Waterfalls" are up to 120 feet high and are located below the Brooklyn Bridge, between Piers 4 and 5 in Brooklyn, at Pier 35 off Chinatown and off the north shore of Governors Island.

The social art experiment was created by Olafur Eliasson, whose most memorable works appear in the "Take Your Time: Olafur Eliasson" exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in NYC.

The "New York City Waterfalls" were commissioned by the Public Art Fund, which contributed $13.5 million to the project. The Lower Manhattan Development Corp came up with another $2 million. Engineering was provided by Tishman Construction Corp.

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that the waterfalls are expected to attract more than $55 million in tourist spending.

"The New York City Waterfalls" will flow between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. through Oct. 13. The information on the falls is available at http://www.nycwaterfalls.org.
