Former Niger Prime Minister Hama Amadou Arrested on Corruption Charges

Former Prime Minister Hama Amadou has been arrested by Niger police and is now facing corruption charges.

Amadou has been accused of embezzling just under $240,000 during his seven years as prime minister, an accusation he has denied and labeled politically motivated.

The accusations came from the government of current President Mamadou Tandja but Amadou has said those accusations were made to keep him from running for president in 2009.
